4. Hill walk - Leenane Hill

Picturesque Leenane is located near the end of the Killary Fjord and is home to some great hill walks. One of the best is the imposing Leenane Hill, part of the Maamturk mountains, which appears to stand guard over the village in a timeless fashion. The hill walk  starts from the village itself with a long climb up to the top of the horseshoe ridge from where one can see the rest of the Maamturk mountains. Continuing westwards along the ridge one can see stunning views including Inisbofin, Inis Turk, Kylemore and the beautiful Inagh valley. Just before the final desent back to Leenane is a great chance to see Mweelrea (in background in photograph above), the highest mountain in Connaught, and Ben Gorm which are located on the far side of Killary Fjord.

Spectacular views of Mweelrea mountain and Killary Harbour, Ireland's only fjord, (above) a mountain-top lake or "corrie". View of Maamturks and Loch Inagh Valley
